Concept by PapsLab. Fennor Heating & Plumbing is a fictional business.Fictional business.

What changed
  • The phone number is a real tap-to-call button in the header on every screen, and the only bright colour on the page.
  • The page opens with six things a boiler does, each with what to try, when to call and what the call-out costs, instead of a form and a two-day wait.
  • Prices are one plain list: call-outs, the three kinds of yearly service, and what gets a fixed written price.
  • Built phone first: the first screen on a phone has the gas and carbon monoxide steps, then the answers, with no pinching or sideways scrolling.
  • Twenty-two bullet-point services became six symptoms that people actually search for at 7am in a cold house.
  • Phone hours are stated plainly, the dead map is gone, and booking the yearly service is five short fields with the price shown before you ask.

What’s the boiler doing?

Smell gas? Leave the boiler alone, open the windows, don’t touch switches, and call Gas Networks Ireland on 1800 20 50 50 (24 hours).

Carbon monoxide alarm going off? Get everyone out and call 112.

Pick what the boiler is doing

No heating and no hot water

Try this first

Check the boiler has power: the switch or fused spur beside it, and the display. Oil: look at the tank gauge. Gas: check the hob lights. Then press reset once.

Call us if

It still won’t light, or it locks out again.

What it costs

Call-out €95, which covers the first half hour. Most of these are fixed inside it.

Hot water, but the radiators are cold

Try this first

Check the timer is on a heating period and the room thermostat is turned up above the room temperature.

Call us if

The boiler fires for hot water but the radiators stay cold. It’s usually the pump or a valve.

What it costs

Call-out €95. A new pump, fitted, is usually €250 to €350.

The pressure gauge is below 1

Try this first

Top it up to 1.5 with the filling loop under the boiler: open the two taps slowly, watch the gauge, close them at 1.5.

Call us if

It drops again within a week. There’s a leak somewhere, or the expansion vessel needs air.

What it costs

Call-out €95 to find it.

It’s banging or rumbling

Try this first

Bleed the radiators upstairs with a radiator key and a cloth, then check the pressure.

Call us if

The noise keeps coming back. It’s usually scale or the pump, and it’s cheaper to catch before it fails.

What it costs

Call-out €95.

There’s water leaking

Try this first

Switch the boiler off, close the valves under it if you can reach them, and put towels and a bowl down. If it’s a lot, turn off the water at the stopcock.

Call us if

Now. Leaks go first in the day’s list.

What it costs

Call-out €95.

A light is flashing, or it shows a code

Try this first

Write down the code, then press reset once.

Call us if

The code comes back. Tell us the code and the make of boiler, and we’ll bring the right part.

What it costs

Call-out €95.

Not on the list?
